Obituary for Susan S. Joyce
Susan Sandra Joyce, 73, of Urbana, left our world for a kinder one Friday, February 8, 2019, at home.
Susan was born on April 20, 1945, in Chicago, the daughter of Volga German-American Alex and Polish-American Clara (Bawiec) Wolf. She married John Joyce on April 12, 1969, in Chicago. He survives.
She is also survived by one daughter- Briggs (Andrew) Geier of Phoenix, Arizona; six sons- Montgomery, Barney, Daniel, Quinn, Karl and Alex Joyce all of Champaign-Urbana; two grandchildren- Tag and Tate Geier; one sister- Barbara Maksym of Phoenix, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant daughters- Clara Ann and Frances, and one sister- Roberta Schoenfeld.
Susan graduated from Imaculatta High School in Chicago and attended DePaul University. After moving to Urbana, She worked at Carle clinic for 20 years until an injury forced her retirement.
Susan spent most of her life sacrificing for others. She left college to care for her dying mother and took in her alzheimers sickened father to an already full house. She was his only caretaker until his death. Susan worked tirelessly caring for and raising her seven children, she always put them first and herself last. She rarely missed any of their endless recitals, school plays or sporting events.
Susan established a heartwarming and festive home with open doors, that welcomed a never ending parade of countless kids and family friends. Her nightly feasts, baked goods and sack lunches were the envy of anyone who witnessed them. Susan had an endearing quick wit and sharp tongue but also cripplingly deep symphathy and empathy for others.
Susan loved animals, especially birds, reading, watching figure skating, cooking, trips to Chicago, the rock band Tears for Fears [seeing them many times in concert], and catered some Pi Omega Omega events.
Susan’s humble nature blinded her from realizing how she profoundly enriched and influenced innumerable lives.

After overcoming several tragedies in life, Susan is now at peace. She will be dearly missed. According to her wishes, Susan’s ashes will be dispersed around her beloved childhood neighborhood in Chicago.
There are not any services scheduled at this time. Illiana Cremation Society has the honor of assisting the Joyce family. Memories or photos may be shared with the family on her everlasting memorial page at: www.IllianaCremation.com.
